Created by a lovely young family in Poland. These ingenious block sets comprise of only 4 elements, simple chunky blocks, large and half size ‘flats’ and small ‘sticks’, for creative open-ended play.
Just Blocks are designed to let children find their own solutions to structural problems and to develop spatial management skills through engaging in play. Just Blocks grow with the child. A baby or toddler may simply like to grasp the large blocks, feel their shape and their weight, move them from one basket to the next, dump them out and start again, perhaps make a line of them on the floor to create roads. A 3 year old might arrange and combine the different block elements. This involves recognising and matching shapes, using fine motor skills to grip and manipulate the block elements and awareness of spatial relationships (up, down, left, right). At this stage blocks might be stacked one on another and towers built. At 4-5 years a child tends to be more precise in their planning and complex structures are able to be built. At this age they are better able to deal with frustrations and problem solve to achieve goals. School age children will build complicated three-dimensional structures. They’ll be able to grasp basic rules of physics and balance their buildings with a well develop spatial imagination and enjoy the challenge.
Building various structures is just the beginning! Any newly built structure becomes a new play zone to which other elements can be added e.g. toy characters and cars.
Just Blocks are at their heart simply loose parts for the child’s imaginative play. The opportunities are endless.
